My Local Places
When I was writing novels, I was told to “write what you know. Now that I am a photographer living in Washington State near Seatac Airport just south of Seattle, I will blog about my experience here. This entry will be more general with more detailed text in later entries.
Western Washington is a fantastic place for photography. With a mild climate and consistent rain, the environment caters to all amateur and professional photographers. And, after it rains, the environment if fresh, clear and glistening. I am interested in places rather than people. So that’s what I will be talking about.
The theme of this area is water, water, everywhere. It comes from the sky, freezes in the mountains and surrounds us in lakes, ponds, rivers, the sea and multiple inlets with the Puget Sound being the most prominent. All of this water keeps natural life thriving with a vast variety of plants, flowers and trees. It takes little time to be out of urban areas and experiencing nature. If nature is not your thing then there are cities to visit with old and new buildings including Seattle, Tacoma and Bellevue. Some of you may want to mix nature with architecture.
Much of my work is nature related but I also enjoy architecture and skylines. I will tease you with some of my favorite locations that I return to again and again. A George Cole highlight list. First and foremost is Mount Rainier. It can be seen and photographed from far away or very close. You will have an unlimited choice of scenes related to our main landmark. We have many waterfalls here. The easiest to access and most famous is Snoqualmie Falls. And, I think it is the most impressive. There are two areas you can visit. The top, main section is where most people go. There is also a less used lower part by the Snoqualmie River. Kerry Park is a famous viewpoint for Seattle but I prefer taking pictures from Alki Beach in West Seattle. The Seattle skyline is stunning with the buildings, Elliott Bay and water activities waiting for your trained eye.
In my portfolios you will find images of the above locations and many others. Please take a look. I welcome questions and comments.
